Just a little history…

Justin and I went from home ownership, to renting, to living with my parents to pull off our dream home renovation. Not the normal progression, but it was definitely worth it! We started the project in February 2017 and finished the majority of the upstairs renovation in December that year.

#demoday

We completed as much of the demo as we could on our own - plus the clean up. How we don’t know all of the employees at the dump by name I have no idea. Any by on our own I mean Justin, myself, my dad, and one of his employees, Ruperto. Our timing for demo was actually pretty decent. Tearing out walls, ceilings, insulation, etc. is much more pleasant when you’re not sweating to death. A large portion of the demo was complete by March.

Major projects included:

  • Transforming the covered porch into the laundry room

  • Raising the roof in kitchen and living

  • Complete gut of kitchen

  • Moving the location of basement staircase

  • Creating a master bedroom and bath from the existing master and neighboring bedroom + vaulting the roof and new window.

  • Building a new fireplace for the basement and upstairs living room

  • Adding onto the front of the house + new front porch

  • Adding a back patio + changing a window to sliding glass doors.

  • 1 + 1/2 bathroom remodels

  • Closing off formal living room to be an additional bedroom

The next 9 months…

April 2017 was particularly rainy so we lost a few weeks and had a few issues since gutters were off the front of the house at the time. Things picked up by the end of May when we cut out the roof. Our awesome team was able take off the existing roof, install new trusses and new roof in one day! Luckily my mom was there to capture it all.

The new front, roof and porch was framed in by the end of June. And from there the summer few by. July - we had our new front door, window, roof and chimney completed. August - new sheet rock installed, floor demo complete, beams installed and stained and electrical roughed in. September - Dad finished our new fireplace, sheet rock mostly finished, hardwoods installed and cabinets installed.

I started a new job in October, which made things extra crazy for a little while. In November the exterior was painted…twice (we won’t go there), tile and countertops were installed, hardwoods finished and light fixtures installed. The mirrors were the last thing to be installed the first week of December. That weekend we moved in!

These days

We are finally finishing up some over due projects like installing the master bath door and styling the living room (I only have one print hanging on the wall in the entire house!). Slowly but surely we’ve been turning the unfinished basement into the game/man/studio space.
